Miss Emma Ant

My newest picture book for children is here! "Miss Emma Ant" tells the story of  talented, hard-working Emma, the architect for her colony's anthills. Ants in the colony, not recognizing their own special skills, grow jealous of Emma, and taunt her until she quits her job. Chaos ensues! Will pleas from apologetic ants convince Emma to return to work? Vibrant, expressive illustrations and fun facts about ants make this humorous rhyming story both entertaining and educational as children learn to value their own uniqueness and the meaning of teamwork. Suggested age range for readers: 2-5

A Rainbow of Birds by Janet Halfman, Illustrated by Jack Foster

Birds have their legends just like people do, and baby birds love to hear the stories. Papa Cardinal, whose job it is to pass down bird ways to his chicks, tells them the story of how birds gave the world the rainbow.  A Rainbow of Birds (Guardian Angel Publishing) by Janet Halfmann is one of the most colorful books I've seen from Jack Foster. He went all out bringing the colors of the rainbow to life.

Janet's story is a delight and bonus activities in the back of the book teach about rainbows. Other recent titles by Janet include Eggs 1, 2,3: Who Will the Babies Be?, Home in the Cave, Star of the Sea, A Day in the Life of a Starfish, Good Night, Little Sea Otter, and Seven Miles to Freedom: The Robert Smalls Story. Janet has written thirty-five fiction and nonfiction books for children.

Blog Hop! with Donna J. Shepherd

My friend, Diana Jenkins, invited me to participate in a “blog hop interview.” Diana sent interview questions to answer on my blog. I then tag writers who will answer questions on their blogs.

Diana posted her interview on her blog at DJ's Thoughts. If you get a minute, drop by to get to know Diana better and leave a comment letting her know you connected to her through my link.

Now on to the interview!

What are you working on right now?

I’ve spent the last few weeks promoting “Ava’s Secret Tea Party,” but I am always cooking on several burners with both children’s and the inspirational writing. The very talented JackFoster and I plan to release an eBook soon. I have another children’s book under contract with Guardian Angel Publishing, but not sure of a date for that one. I signed the contract two years ago!

What experiences have influenced you?

I experienced many happy hours with my children teaching them to read and scouring the library for new books. Both of them liked the rhyming stories the most, so I ended up writing in rhyme and loving it. I sing and play the piano, so the rhythm and flow of rhyme soothes me. I work on every word, every syllable, every beat, until I’m satisfied. And then I work on them some more.

What is the hardest part about writing?

My problem is never finding things to write, but finding time to write. And focus! I have such varied interests that it’s difficult for me to focus. Any author today must find time to market, too.

What would you like to try as a writer that you haven't yet?

I’ve been dabbling in romantic fiction. I have a follow up novelette to “Love Under the Bubble Wrap” that will be up on Amazon soon. It’s novella length – a bit longer. I would love to write a full length novel one day, and never really had that desire until lately. Isn’t there a saying that everyone thinks they have a novel inside? So far, mine hasn’t made it to the surface.

I tag these children's authors. Be sure to check out their blog posts!

"Where is Salami?" ..is a cute rhyming story for children ages 2-5 years old that shows the importance of keeping your pets in their cages and teaches kids more about the animals. The bright and colorful pictures add to the enjoyment of the book. The readers are sure to have fun finding the hidden objects in every picture. Parents and kids should both enjoy the book and I suspect they will find themselves reading it over and over. -- Nancy A. Cavanaugh, Once Upon a Book Review; Click HERE to read the full review.
