School Lunch

Lunch Posted by Hello

As a rule,
The lunches at school
Never appeal to me.
Mom packs my sack
Every day
With plenty of
Mystery.

What did she pack?
What's the surprise?
What will I eat today -
A sandwich and chips,
A scrumptious dessert?
Each day
My private buffet.

On the kitchen counter
At home
Lays my forgotten
backpack.
When running late,
The bus wouldn't wait
I wish I had time
To go back.

Now I'm upset,
Because I won't get
Mom's yummy treats
On a plate
I guess the school lunch
Will do in a crunch
From now on,
I don't want to run late!

I LOVE it! I had a similar incident just this past week. On my special food plan, I can't eat school lunches, and I ran out of time to prepare a lunch to take with me. What's the news on your book of children's poetry? It just HAS to happen!

Thanks, Ellen. I guess I didn't think of the adults brown-bagging it and identifying with this one! *g*

I'm working on the poetry slowly but surely. I've amassed quite a few now. I just need to get them 'out there' in the publishing world. Maybe someone else will think I'm as clever as you do! Thanks for the encouragement. It means a lot.

Boy does this bring back memories of last year. One of my daughters forgot her lunch several times and I had to drive to school to drop it off. I think it was her way of seeing me at school, but she denied it - with a smile, of course.
